About Ikamva Labantu
Ikamva Labantu is over 60 years old with a well-established team and programme making significant social impact. It was founded by Helen Lieberman during apartheid, when she joined a group of local women to build desperately needed solutions for challenges in the townships.
The organisation remains uniquely women and community-led with 90% of its staff being women who live in the same communities that they uplift. This means every cent stretches further to uplift under-resourced communities.
The programme has three core programmes:
- Early Childhood Development training for practitioners and principals
- Child, Youth and Parenting that focuses on afterschool programmes
- Older Persons programme providing local Senior Clubs and homebased community rehabilitation for frail elders.
