About International Fluid Academy (IFA)
Fluids are not just simple stabilizing agents — they are drugs with indications, contraindications, and potential side effects.
As Paracelsus said, “the dose makes the poison.”
In critical care, fluid management is all about the right type, dose, timing, and rate of administration.
WHO WE ARE
Founded in 2011 to serve as a platform for gathering experts in the field and for organizing workshops and teaching courses. The International Fluid Academy (IFA) is part of iMERiT (International Medical Education and Research Institute), a non-profit organization based in Belgium.
OUR MISSION
We aim to:
• Foster education and promote research on fluid management and hemodynamic monitoring
• Improve outcomes for critically ill patients through better fluid and organ support strategies
• Unite healthcare professionals — physicians, nurses, and researchers — across disciplines and borders
HOW WE WORK
We achieve our goals through:
• Collaborative research projects and guideline development
• Joint data registration and knowledge exchange between centres worldwide
• Annual International Fluid Academy Days (iFAD) scientific meetings
• Educational courses, workshops, and webinars
• Publishing research in Fluids – The International Journal on Medical Fluid Management
