About Justice Health Research Program UNSW
Hey there! A warm welcome to the page for the Justice Health Research Program (JHRP). We're part of the School of Population Health at UNSW in Sydney, Australia.
Here at JHRP we recognise the challenges facing the justice system, and the people involved in the system, are complex and multifaceted. Solutions rarely sit neatly within one discipline. That’s why our work is interdisciplinary by design—bringing together experts in public health, medicine, epidemiology, criminology, social, legal and data science.
With a focus on translational research grounded in real-world contexts and value, we aim to generate nuanced and meaningful insights to address the issues facing justice healthcare. We understand research alone is not enough to improve health and justice outcomes. We are committed to translating valuable knowledge into action—whether that’s through policy engagement, service design, or community-led interventions.
We work closely with people who have lived experience of the Australian justice system, as well as with service providers, government agencies, and community and not-for-profit organisations both nationally and internationally.
Our diverse team includes 15 staff (professional, academic and students) with a wide range of expertise and interests, collectively united by our shared mission:
"Generate world-class evidence and develop real-world solutions that address the social determinants of crime, prevent incarceration, reduce offending and improve health, justice, and welfare outcomes for those in contact with the justice system."
If you want to learn more about our research capabilities, current projects or simply want to chat to one of our experts, check out our website!
You can also always send us an email at [email protected]
