Position Overview
The Director must demonstrate the ability to lead a diverse team within a designated geographic region, program area, or funding source. This role oversees the development, management, and implementation of community employment programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Director ensures all operations align with the agency’s mission, leadership objectives, policies, funding requirements, regulatory agencies, licensing standards, and accreditation guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight for all local program operations, including staff supervision, program implementation, and budget management.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with community employers to promote agency services and create employment opportunities for program participants.
- Facilitate employment services including vocational guidance, job development, job placement, employer education, job coaching, and ongoing customer relations.
- Ensure services are person-centered, culturally responsive, and developmentally appropriate to meet the needs of transition-age youth and adults.
- Oversee the delivery of core program activities, including job exploration counseling, work-based learning experiences, postsecondary education counseling, workplace readiness training, and self-advocacy instruction.
- Teach small groups in assigned local schools, supporting neurodiverse students ages 14–22 in developing pre-employment and transition skills for the workforce or post-secondary education.
- Provide instruction in self-advocacy, job exploration, workplace readiness, work-based learning experiences (e.g., internships), and post-secondary planning.
- Collaborate with school personnel, higher education programs, and community employers to build partnerships that support student and participant success.
- Utilize innovative technology, including virtual reality and online learning platforms, to enhance instruction and participant engagement.
- Coordinate and deliver professional development and training opportunities for program staff.
