The opportunity:

AIA currently has an opportunity available for a Financial Accountant to join their team in either Melbourne or Sydney. Within this role is responsible for performing general accounting and reinsurance activities to ensure the integrity, accuracy and completeness of accounting records, and compliance with accepted accounting standards, AIA group reporting policy and statutory and regulatory requirements.

To do this successfully you will:



  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly balance sheet reconciliations, journals and general ledger adjustments for CMLAS and AIAA, including payroll, prepayments, accruals, intercompany and reinsurance accounts, with all entries supported by appropriate documentation.

  • Perform end‑to‑end reinsurance accounting activities, including journals, reconciliations, confirmations with related parties and ongoing operational support to the Senior Financial Accountant: Reinsurance.

  • Ensure timely investigation and resolution of variances, ad‑hoc queries and stakeholder requests, providing support for management reporting, statutory reporting and audit requirements.

  • Assist with the preparation of financial statement disclosures and respond to internal and external audit queries by providing accurate and well‑maintained workpapers.

  • Maintain compliance with AIA Group Financial Controls Framework, finance policies, governance standards, and ensure policies and procedures are current and effective.

  • Identify, implement and support process improvements, system enhancements and transformation initiatives across finance and reinsurance accounting activities.

  • Build effective working relationships across Finance and business units, demonstrate role model behaviours, and undertake additional responsibilities as directed by the Finance Manager: General Ledger.





Successful applications will demonstrate:



  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting/Finance
  • Post-qualification experience, preferably with financial services experience. Life insurance, payroll accounting and reinsurance experience are an advantage
  • Experience in completing reconciliations
  • SAP and Sun Systems experience an advantage
  • Microsoft Access experience an advantage
  • Strong MS Excel skills and proficiency in all MS software
  • A demonstrated commitment to excellence and accuracy
  • Excellent people and communication skills, (both written and verbal)
  • Strong organisational and planning skills
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work to deadlines




Strong understanding of accounting principles

Strong relationship management skills to engage stakeholders and to understand their business objectives and requirements

Strong understanding of when to escalate issues or potential risk incidents.
