The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer provides quantitative and qualitative subject‑matter expertise to internal and external stakeholders by identifying trends and insights that drive business outcomes and improve customer and financial performance. The role is responsible for designing, refining, and operationalizing analytics, modeling, and reporting solutions that support enterprise‑level decision‑making.
As a technical leader, this position contributes to the continuous improvement of Academy‑wide data and analytics platforms, including enterprise BI architecture, semantic modeling, reporting frameworks, and data integration solutions. In collaboration with Data Scientists and other technical partners, the Senior BI Engineer helps define standards for data mining, statistical modeling, and scalable analytics pipelines that support large‑scale data analysis.
This role requires frequent interaction with executives and senior leaders. Successful candidates are comfortable navigating ambiguity, working in dynamic environment, translating business problems into technical solutions, and communicating insights clearly and effectively.
Business Intelligence & Analytics Leadership
- Serves as the BI subject‑matter expert for platform development, administration, and analytics strategy under management guidance.
- Builds a deep understanding of business questions and translates them into analytical, statistical, or mathematical models.
- Identifies, analyzes, and presents actionable data patterns and trends to inform strategy, product planning, and market decisions.
- Leads complex data analyses using advanced modeling, trend analysis, and statistical techniques.
- Designs, builds, and maintains scalable BI solutions, including semantic models, data marts, and self‑service analytics frameworks.
- Develop senterprise dashboards and visualizations using Power BI and related tools.
- Designs and implement Star and Snowflake schema data models for performant reporting and analytics.
- Establishes standardized approaches for database design, data validation, and reporting.
- Supports the ongoing development and optimization of the Academy’s analytics platform, including health monitoring and capacity planning.
- Manages BI operations such as data refresh scheduling, usage monitoring, and performance optimization.
- Integrates data into a centralized data warehouse through application analysis and data modeling.
- Documents feasibility assessments, identifies data gaps, and communicates data quality and analytical findings to stakeholders.
- Establishes and enforces standards for security, monitoring, and development aligned with data management best practices.
- Integrates AI and advanced analytics capabilities into BI solutions to enhance insights and automation.
- Builds and maintains AI‑enabled dashboards using natural language generation, forecasting, and key influencer analyses.
- Collaborates with Data Scientists and ML Engineers to embed machine‑learning outputs into Power BI reports.
- Promotes best practices for analytical modeling, visualization design, and data storytelling.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- 10+ years of overall IT industry experience in business intelligence and analytics.
- 5+ years of hands‑on experience with data visualization, including Power BI Desktop, Service, Embedded, and BI architecture.
- Experience with Azure Analysis Services, Tabular Models, and SQL Server Reporting Services.
- Strong experience with Microsoft Fabric, including Data Pipelines and Dataflows Gen2.
- Hands‑on experience with Medallion Architecture.
- Expertise in Star and Snowflake schema design.
- Advanced SQL skills and experience with Azure data services (Data Lake, Azure SQL, Data Mart).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and version control for Power BI and BI development.
- Experience with Power BI Copilot, Azure Cognitive Services, or Azure Machine Learning.
- Proven experience building AI‑enabled visualizations (NLG, forecasting, key influencer analysis).
- Strong foundation in statistical concepts such as probability and inference.
- Expertise in enterprise self‑service BI adoption and user‑centered design.
- Experience managing enterprise‑scale BI solutions with security and governance controls.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Self‑starter with strong multitasking abilities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Proven stakeholder management and collaboration skills.
- Experience implementing AI and machine‑learning initiatives.
- Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, and data cataloging.
- Exposure to scripting languages such as Python.
- Experience with Association Management Systems.
- Microsoft certifications in Power BI or Fabric.
- Experience supporting large‑scale or enterprise BI ecosystems.
- Familiarity with HIPAA/HITECH information security and data privacy requirements.
