The Facilities Operations Branch is seeking an Associate Space Planner (ASP) to join an exciting team of creative professionals. Under the general supervision of the Supervisor I in the Facilities Operations Branch, the ASP performs interior design and modular systems furniture (MSF) layouts to support new and reconfigured workstations.


The Associate Space Planner is responsible for analyzing, coordinating, and implementing project activities related to planning, budgeting, design, space utilization, construction, maintenance, staff relocation, and health and safety for staff and buildings located within the Sacramento headquarters complex and field offices throughout the state. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge, project coordination skills, and experience working with AutoCAD and the California Building Code.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop interior design concepts and modular systems furniture layouts for new and reconfigured workspaces.
  • Analyze and coordinate project activities involving planning, budgeting, construction, maintenance, and staff relocations.
  • Review and assess existing facilities to recommend efficient, economical, and functional use of space.
  • Read, interpret, and prepare drawings, floor plans, elevations, and furniture plans.
  • Ensure compliance with California Building Code requirements and other applicable regulations.
  • Coordinate and manage projects from initiation through completion while maintaining quality standards and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders to support facility planning objectives.
  • Inspect and review work related to space planning and design implementation.
  • Promote innovative solutions that meet operational and customer needs.


Desirable Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of architecture, office planning and design, and facilities planning programs.
  • Understanding of building code requirements, architectural materials, and regulations affecting building design.
  • Experience with project management principles and coordination of facility-related projects.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and familiarity with modular systems furniture layouts.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, plans, and technical specifications.
  • Ability to design, render, and develop elevations, floor plans, and workspace layouts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound recommendations and take effective action.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple priorities and deliver projects successfully and efficiently.
