The Director of Contracts is responsible for leading the Contracts Department with a strong focus on operational excellence, efficiency, and scalability. This role oversees the full contract lifecycle, from initiation to closeout, while ensuring compliance, risk management, and alignment with business objectives. The Director will manage and develop a high-performing team, drive process improvements, leverage technology solutions, and partner with business units to deliver timely, accurate, and value-added contract support.

Summary
The Director of Contracts is responsible for leading the Contracts Department with a strong focus on operational excellence, efficiency, and scalability. This role oversees the full contract lifecycle, from initiation to closeout, while ensuring compliance, risk management, and alignment with business objectives. The Director will manage and develop a high-performing team, drive process improvements, leverage technology solutions, and partner with business units to deliver timely, accurate, and value-added contract support.
Education and/or Experience:
A bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university is required. An advanced degree is preferred. A minimum of ten (10) years’ progressive experience in contract management, operations, or business process leadership. A minimum of five (5) years of management or leadership experience with a focus on operational efficiency.
Operational Excellence in Contract Management
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
Contracts or Risk Management certificate or equivalent training in preparing for a certificate.
Work Environment:
At Rain for Rent, in-person work at our offices and/or branch location is a top priority because it allows us to more effectively collaborate, connect, and builds a workplace culture that drives our continued success. This role requires onsite presence at a RfR office and/or branch location. Except for limited circumstances, remote and/or hybrid options are not offered at this time.

Estimated rate of pay $135,000 - $155,000 annually

- Strong project management, process design, and continuous improvement skills.
- Proven track record of driving efficiency, reducing risk, and aligning contract operations with business objectives.
Operational Excellence in Contract Management
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of agreements, including renewals, amendments, statements of work, confidentiality agreements, material transfer agreements, research collaborations, and other vendor contracts.
- Design, implement, and refine standardized processes, tools, and templates for contract creation, review, negotiation, and administration.
- Develop methods to monitor team performance to measure turnaround time, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
- Lead the selection, implementation, and optimization of contract lifecycle management (CLM) platforms and related technologies.
- Drive automation initiatives to reduce manual work, improve accuracy, and accelerate contract cycle times.
- Utilize data analytics, dashboards, and reporting tools to provide insights on contract performance and operational efficiency.
- Evaluate emerging technologies (e.g., AI-assisted contract review, workflow automation) and recommend adoption to enhance scalability.
- Serve as a key partner to operations, finance, procurement, sales, and the General Counsel’s office to align contracts with business strategy.
- Provide operational insights to senior leadership to improve forecasting, budgeting, and performance management.
- Ensure smooth coordination of contract-related workflows across departments.
- Ensure all contracts comply with corporate policies, regulatory requirements, and risk management standards.
- Maintain centralized contract records and support audits and reporting needs.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and implement solutions to reduce risk exposure and cycle times.
- Develop long-term strategies for contract operations, focusing on scalability, automation, and digital transformation.
- Benchmark best practices in contract management and integrate them into departmental operations.
- Lead change management efforts for new tools, systems, and process enhancements.
- Other duties as assigned in support of the operation.
