The Salem YMCA is seeking an energetic and strategic Health & Wellness Director to join our community-centered and highly collaborative leadership team. This role is ideal for someone who is excited to lead a talented team, enhance member experiences, and expand our wellness offerings—with a special focus on mind-body programming such as yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, and other holistic wellness initiatives.
As the Health & Wellness Director, you will oversee all aspects of the fitness center, personal training, and group exercise programming. You’ll play a key role in creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where members of all ages and abilities feel supported in achieving their health and wellness goals.
🌟 What You’ll Do
👥 Team Leadership & Development
Recruit, train, supervise, and support full- and part-time wellness staff, including personal trainers and group exercise instructors
Foster a positive, high-performing team culture focused on member engagement and results
Provide coaching, feedback, and professional development opportunities
🧘 Program Development & Innovation
Design and enhance health and wellness programs that meet the evolving needs of the Salem community
Expand and strengthen mind-body offerings, including yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, and other wellness-based classes
Match members with personal trainers and oversee program quality and effectiveness
Evaluate program participation, retention, and financial performance

Build strong relationships with members and connect them to the programs and services that best support their goals
Create an inclusive and welcoming fitness environment for all ages and ability levels
🏢 Operations & Administration
Ensure the wellness center is clean, safe, and fully operational
Manage schedules, payroll, and administrative responsibilities
Maintain compliance with YMCA policies and all health and safety standards
🌍 Community Outreach
Develop partnerships and outreach opportunities to expand program participation
Collaborate with association peers to implement strategic wellness initiatives

Proven experience in health and wellness leadership
Strong people management skills with the ability to coach, inspire, and develop staff
Passion for mind-body programming and holistic wellness
Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to build relationships with a diverse population
Experience With Budgeting, Scheduling, And Program Management Preferred

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in the area of Exercise Physiology, Sports Medicine, Exercise Science, Physical Education, or a related field.
Hold national group exercise and/or personal training certification, or agree to achieve within 1 year, enabling group exercise and specialty class instruction, personal training, and staff training.
At least five years of experience delivering a variety of Health and Wellness programs and services that meet the needs of their respective communities preferred.
Must be able to perform the physical skills required to participate in and lead fitness programs, including those of a physical nature.
