Director of Facility Operations

The Bayer Research and Innovation Center in Kendall Square is at the forefront of scientific advancement, dedicated to pioneering research and development. As a hub for innovation, we leverage cutting-edge technologies and collaborative approaches to tackle some of the world’s most pressing challenges. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as the Director of Facility Operations. This pivotal role is essential in ensuring the seamless functioning of our state-of-the-art facilities, where groundbreaking research takes place. As the Director, you will be responsible for leading the planning, engineering, and maintenance of our facilities while managing day-to-day operations and overseeing critical projects that support our mission. With a focus on delivering exceptional service and maintaining a safe and compliant work environment, you will collaborate with diverse teams to enhance laboratory operations and drive continuous improvement. Your Tasks And Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role, Director Facilities Operations, are to:

  • Direct the planning, engineering, maintenance, daily operations, and budgeting of the facilities and property administration programs and processes;
  • Lead and manage day-to-day operations, budget, resource, prioritization, and facilities projects. Develop scope of facilities projects, specifications, request for Proposals (RFPs), and quotation, contracting, project management, and execution;
  • Maintain buildings and infrastructure in an operational state, including planned maintenance, unplanned/emergency maintenance, and prosecution of routine work orders;
  • Oversee the ongoing delivery of core services including janitorial, shipping and receiving, mailroom, and facilities helpdesk;
  • Oversee all aspects of the capital projects department from initial scope cost estimating, design, construction, and delivery of office and Research and Development (R&D) space;
  • Provide leadership and guidance in the development of the project controls and procedures to ensure all capital projects are delivered on- time and within the approved budget;
  • Manage and develop a highly effective, engaged office and lab operations team;
  • Participate in company risk prioritization and management processes;
  • Guide the Lab Operations team in growing lab support services, ensuring high quality and reliable support for our research team. This includes planning and executing capital and expense investments in laboratory infrastructure, lab equipment procurement and maintenance, as well as shipping and receiving support;
  • Create and provide a safe and secure work environment for all employees;
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable health and safety laws and regulations;
  • Coordinate development, implementation, and preservation of standard operating procedures and policies appropriate for operations performed cross-functionally.

Who You Are

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree OR an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Proven track record of management and leadership effectiveness;
  • Proficiency in local, state, and federal guidelines for safety, shipping, waste disposal, and pH systems;
  • Previous experience managing vendors, budgets, and overseeing laboratories and equipment;
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively across all departments;
  • Ability to prioritize scheduled work and equipment installation requirements with exceptional customer service skills;
  • Exceptional customer service skills and experience with the ability to successfully collaborate with all team members in a high-paced environment;
  • Strong ability to influence key stakeholders, drive change and achieve support for new initiatives;
  • Experience managing external vendors and service providers for all operations projects and programs;
  • Exceptional business acumen with the ability to navigate in a rapidly growing organization;
  • Superior organizational skills with keen attention to detail;
  • Knowledge of pertinent health and safety laws and regulations;
  • Excellent ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize and meet required deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in operations and or laboratory/facilities management in the Biotech and Pharmaceutical industry with prior personnel management experience;
  • Master’s Degree.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $ 140,720.00 - $211,080.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.

This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
