This position will manage general accounting functions for an assigned portfolio of Scion’s communities, providing excellent service to our onsite teams and interpreting financial narratives for effective business decisions.
The Senior Property Accountant will work in a fast-paced, agile, corporate environment. This position demands curiosity, an eye for detail, and a drive to provide support to others.
This position is based out of our central office in Chicago, IL and is fully on-site.

The base salary range for this full-time position is base + bonus + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. $75,000—$90,000 USD

- Maintains general ledgers in compliance with GAAP and update monthly.
- Prepares applicable monthly journal entries.
- Analyzes and prepares monthly financials for assigned properties.
- Executes monthly reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts.
- Researches and reports financial and operational variances.
- Reviews revenue and contracts, monthly.
- Reviews month end financials prepared by the Property Accounting Team. Provide insight into variances to the Directors and Managers.
- Provides support to the Operations team as needed, regarding financial performance of assigned properties.
- Responsible for monthly accruals, TRS entries, ground leases and completeness of Cap Ex review and proper tags.
- Responds to auditor inquiries as requested.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and 3-5 years of post-baccalaureate work experience in an accounting function; experience in Real Estate or Property Management is a plus.
- Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with PMS systems such as Entrata is a plus.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Attentive to detail.
- Manages multiple projects and meets goals and deadlines timely and consistently.
- Versatile, flexible, and thrives in an environment where there are constantly changing priorities.
- Commitment to excellence and high standards.
- Works well with all levels of management.
- Works well independently and as a member of various teams.
- Requires minimal guidance to accomplish general tasks.
- Job location is based at Scion's Chicago corporate headquarters.
- Working hours consist of standard daytime business hours.
