Position Title: Temporary Tax Preparer, Tax Help Colorado

Status: This is a non-exempt part time temporary position schedule to work 20 hours per week for 12 weeks starting January 20th.

Salary: $22.57/hr

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the expected hourly pay rate for this position is $22.57. In an effort to increase equity and to avoid unfair bias historically associated with salary negotiations, we do not participate in salary negotiations outside of this stated starting salary range.

How You'll Help

For many Colorado families, the tax refund is the single biggest check they will receive in a year. Tax Help Colorado helps low- and middle-income families Coloradans to file accurate tax returns and receive every deduction and credit they are owed-often to the tune of thousands of dollars that can be used to reach their personal and family goals through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The tax preparer plays an integral role in implementing the Tax Help Colorado program and effectively supports and operates free tax preparation sites across the state of Colorado. With a strong focus on providing excellent customer service to create a trustworthy environment for the client, this position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the community by supporting clients with tax assistance.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Complete all required training and IRS certifications
  • Ensure accurate tax preparation and quality review of tax returns
  • Provide administrative support at tax preparation sites in the community
  • Follow the Internal Revenue Service's VITA quality site requirements
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure timely and accurate service delivery
  • Provide exceptional customer service
  • Build relationships and work effectively with donors, volunteers, clients, and community partners

What You'll Need: Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Excellent communication and client service skills, including attentive listening, calmness under pressure, and de-escalation
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated passion for helping low-income individuals and families meet their needs and build assets
  • Strong organizational skills, including time management and attention to detail
  • Experience with concepts of trauma-informed practice, de-escalation, and community engagement
  • Proficiency with Windows computers and web-based software applications

Training And Certificate Requirements

  • All tax preparers are required to complete a short tax preparation course during the onboarding period to prepare tax returns with Tax Help Colorado. Successful completion of all certifications below is a requirement of employment:
    • Volunteer Standards of Conduct
    • Intake/Interview and Quality Review
    • Advanced Tax
    • Site Coordinator
Working Environment: 100% in-person at tax preparation sites throughout Metro Denver.

Physical Activities: May be required to lift up to 20lbs. Ability to provide personal transportation.
