Join us, be part of more.

We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.

About your team:

We’re the pride of Ireland. Bord Gáis Energy have been powering the nation’s homes and businesses for almost 40 years. But now, we’re so much more than just gas and electric. Through our unique combination of household heroes and energy assets, we’re at the heart of the energy transition in Ireland, strengthening the country’s energy security and helping customers get ready for a net zero future.

We are looking for a Senior Energy Modeller to join our Long Term Modelling team. This is a pivotal role that involves delivering market forecasts for Ireland, from the near term to several decades ahead. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage directly with our senior leadership team, providing critical insights that will shape company strategy. Your insights will guide Bord Gáis Energy through electricity sector transformations and ensure alignment with net-zero goals.

Location: This role can be based in either Cork or Dublin in Ireland or from our UK Windsor office.

The role focuses on developing and enhancing quantitative models, methodologies, and software tools for Assets, Trading, and Bord Gáis Energy in the wholesale gas and electricity markets. Responsibilities include optimising generation dispatch and generation asset valuation. You will be using fundamental modeling capability (including Plexos) to support the development of a range of scenarios to assess the impact of climate targets on Ireland's power system, prices and assets.

The role also involves staying updated on regulatory decisions which shape market design, and providing analysis on consultations dealing with the wholesale energy market. You will support commercial contract originating and structuring, analyzing competitor behaviour and identifying commercial opportunity, and improving business processes. You will drive analysis of complex data using statistics to facilitate modelling, and maintain adequate documentation for all methods. Effective communication of complex data to stakeholders, maintaining documentation, and performing additional tasks as needed are also key aspects of the role.

Here's who we're looking for:

  • A degree in a quantitative or scientific field such as mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering or computer science.
  • Knowledge of wholesale electricity markets, particularly price-formation and the operation of the Irish market.
  • Excellent analytical skills and knowledge of numerical and statistical techniques and experience of applying these techniques to practical real-world problems.
  • Proficiency in manipulation and analysing of large data sets (using Python, SQL, or similar programming language).
  • Capability with Plexos or any other market scheduling tool an advantage.
  • Previous experience in a related role highly desired.

Why should you apply?
