
Primary Role
The Technician, Cross Connection is responsible for executing the administrative aspects of the state cross connection control program to help ensure compliance with environmental regulations relating to cross connections and backflow prevention.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide day-to-day administrative support; compose correspondence, research accounts, answer customer phone calls and perform data entry.
- Serve as the first point of contact for customers, network staff and cross connect staff.
- Assist in coordinating the local enforcement of the cross connection control program to help ensure compliance with regulations, company tariffs, and the American Water cross connection procedure.
- Maintain records and files of backflow device test reports, surveys, and inspection reports. Respond to data requests and prepare reports.
Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge of water or other utility operations preferred
- Knowledge of specific systems such as SAP preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft office suite applications including MSWord, Excel, Access and PowerPoint and email management systems (MS Outlook).
- Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills
- Good business acumen and judgment.
- Good quantitative and analytical skills; attention to detail.
- Good verbal and written communication skills (e.g., report writing, listening, plan reading and creating, and presentation).
- Strong interpersonal skills (e.g., tact/diplomacy, persuasion, team building, cooperation, leadership, ability to motivate others.
Experience/Education
- High School Diploma. Associate’s degree in science, business administration or management, or related degree preferred.
- 0-2 years’ experience in operations, administrative and/or customer service, preferred.
Travel Requirements
Local and occasional regional travel, as needed.
Certifications & Licenses
Valid Driver’s License and ability to pass motor vehicle background check.
