Founding AI Engineer
Location: Remote (US) | NYC & California Hubs
Compensation: Up to $250k base + Significant Equity
Company: Applied AI research lab building the future of financial intelligence. The team develops AI systems that break down complex financial questions, write and execute data-science code, iterate on results, and generate investment insights autonomously. Long-term vision: AI systems that continuously learn, reason, and make increasingly accurate predictions.
Role: Founding-level engineering position with ownership over core systems and direct collaboration with founders. High-agency role focused on improving intelligence, reasoning, reliability, and product capabilities across an applied AI system. Not a traditional backend or narrow infrastructure role.

Problems You'll Work On
- Agent orchestration and multi-step reasoning workflows
- AI systems that write, execute, and evaluate code
- Evaluation loops, traceability, and system reliability
- Knowledge retrieval and iterative learning systems
- Production AI infrastructure supporting rapid experimentation
- Improving intelligence, reasoning quality, and user outcomes
- Strong Python engineering experience building production systems
- Experience owning projects end-to-end, from architecture through deployment
- Track record of shipping quickly in ambiguous environments
- Strong systems thinking and ability to improve complex systems holistically
- Experience working with modern AI tooling and development workflows
- High agency and ability to operate with minimal oversight
