FSH Tech builds modern software that just works for the public sector. When we deliver, taxpayer dollars go further, agencies move faster, and millions of Americans get tangibly better service and quality of life.
Local governments, schools, libraries, and emergency services run on brittle software that was built decades ago. This results in wasted budgets, broken workflows, and bad outcomes for the public. Our ideal candidate is an expert in their tools. They’ve used their chosen tools to build software repeatedly, and they gain energy from understanding how the tools work. Our ideal candidate is obsessively curious, motivated by customer outcomes, and is a technical artist.
We use Python, Postgres, and Unix to build and deploy our backends and React.js with TypeScript to build our frontends. We maintain a set of internal tools to deterministically generate Python and Typescript. We obsess over how to build compounding advantages in tooling, software, and product.
FSH engineering will appeal to you if you’d like to work on a team that strives for simplicity in tech stack and approach, aggressively builds internal tools and platforms, has a deeply technical leader, only works on things that move the needle for the business, and doesn’t take itself too seriously.
About The Role
The FSH approach to building highly configurable software is modeled on Postgres. We describe what a product does as opposed to how it works. To do this at scale and with speed we heavily rely on a set of internal code generation tools that translate declarative configuration files into bespoke full stack applications. Our platform engineering team maintains these tools, often treating other teams as the customer.

About The Role

What you’ll do
- Create and maintain platforms that enable building products quickly, robustly, and elegantly
- Serve as a mentor to client engineers and technical operators
- Translate customer desires to simplifying software abstractions
- Define engineering culture
- Experience shipping software to users
- Experience building and maintaining platforms
- [preferred] Experience working at a venture backed company
- [preferred] A civic background
- You believe programming is a creative pursuit
- You believe abstractions can simplify complexity
- You are obsessed with focused learning
- You love pattern seeking
- Modern inventory management is best handled through Venetian double entry accounting
- Buddhist meditation and dialectical behavior therapy are closely related
- The distribution of crater sizes on the moon follow a power law
- Rivers and their tributaries, blood vessels, lung bronchi, broccoli, and lightning bolts all demonstrate related pattern
