The Filing Services Bureau (FSB) is searching for a talented individual to join our team.

Under the direction of the Administrator II of Correspondence, Analysis, Support and Education Section (CASES) and in consultation with the Administrator I of Audit Support, the Program Specialist II provides lead technical support in business entity and personal income tax law to auditors within Audit Support. The incumbent oversees technical reviews, ensures alignment with federal and state tax law, and supports staff who interact directly with taxpayers and practitioners. Key responsibilities include guiding auditors on complex tax issues, monitoring federal tax law changes, reviewing RACK content and Public Service Bulletins, and assisting with the most complex taxpayer and practitioner inquiries. The position also helps assign workload, monitor service quality, support staff development, and provide input on performance evaluations. The incumbent serves as a department expert on current tax law, collaborates with Legal and the Legislation Bureau, and participates in department-wide teams related to legislation, forms review, and technical tax issues, ensuring accuracy and effective representation of program needs.

Technical expertise in researching, analyzing, and applying complex Personal Income Tax (PIT) and Business Entity (BE) federal and state tax laws and regulations

  • Ability to research sensitive and complex tax issues, analyze findings, and communicate results to a diverse audience
  • Ability to analyze pertinent laws to determine impacts on departmental manuals, guidelines, forms, publications, policies, procedures, and compliance
  • Ability to interpret and communicate the intent behind federal and state tax policy changes

  • Familiarity with departmental systems such as Taxpayer Information (TI), Business Entities Tax System (BETS), Internal Taxpayer Folder (TPF), Integrated Nonfiler Compliance (INC), or comparable systems
  • Experience using tax law research tools
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Working knowledge of SharePoint or a comparable collaboration system
  • Ability to learn and apply emerging technologies, tools, or systems that support program operations
  • Willingness to adjust work schedule to meet operational needs
  • Positive and professional attitude
  • Ability to accept and utilize constructive feedback
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships across units or bureaus
