Head of Business Development/Commercial Director

Location: San Francisco – remote work but would need to be in the office twice a month for meetings

Reports to: Managing Director, SF

Job Summary

You will be the lead architect of the agencies market acquisition strategy in San Francisco. This is a high-impact leadership role focused on commercial expansion and the pursuit of new brand partnerships. You will own the full-funnel growth engine—from identifying emerging industry trends and activating high-level prospecting plans to leading high-stakes pitches that convert “what if” into “what’s next” for our revenue.

You are a strategic rainmaker, tasked with increasing the agencies visibility and securing our position at the forefront of the industry.

What You’ll be doing

Commercial Strategy & New Business Acquisition

  • Market Mastery & Opportunity Capture: Conduct market research to identify West Coast industry trends, converting insights into actionable new business opportunities.
  • Lead Generation Architecture: Drive and activate comprehensive prospecting plans through a strong network of client and corporate relationships to lead regional growth strategy.
  • Pitch Excellence & Conversion: Oversee the end-to-end delivery of RFIs and RFPs, ensuring all pitch collateral and case studies refl ect Toaster’s global reputation for digital innovation.
  • Brand Visibility & Influence: Partner with the MD, Board, and marketing stakeholders to execute a PR and marketing strategy that increases brand profi le among senior stakeholders.

Strategic Client Growth & Organic Expansion

  • High-Level Relationship Management: Foster relationships with senior figures at key clients to understand long-term business needs and align them with agency creative services.
  • Revenue Diversification: Identify expansion opportunities within the current client base to drive diversification and secure sustainable, long-term financial commitments.
  • Strategic Growth Oversight: Manage and mentor senior team members, including the Account & New Business Development Director, to ensure project delivery is leveraged into broader strategic partnerships.
  • New Business Lead Cultivation: Drive the growth of our creative services offering by creating new business leads and cultivating existing relationships.

Commercial Operations & Revenue Performance

  • Financial Performance Stewardship: Take shared ownership of P&L, financials, and commercials in line with regional growth, profitability, and diversification targets.
  • Strategic Commercial Decision-Making: Make and recommend commercial decisions regarding new brands, markets, or industries that align with the Toaster ethos.
  • Sales Forecasting & Reporting: Provide accurate sales forecasting to the Global Finance function and monitor regional needs to ensure profitable delivery.
  • Performance Optimization: Monitor billable ratios and internal efficiencies to ensure the team is structured to meet the high-growth needs of the US region
