We’re looking for a Firmware Engineer to design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable UX and communication firmware for our IoT platform.

This role is based in our office in San Francisco, CA and is required to have an in office presence.

Who You Are

We are a small, agile team passionate about delivering high-quality experiences across on-device firmware, backend systems, and mobile apps. These experiences enable our customers to interact with Fellow’s connected products.

You will be responsible for the development, maintenance, and optimization of our backend systems and IoT infrastructure. Your role will be critical in ensuring seamless connectivity between our hardware devices, mobile app, and cloud backend.

What You’ll Do

  • UX: Design and maintain a scalable IoT UX platform by building a reusable LVGL-based UX architecture and component library, ensuring responsive and reliable user interactions. Integrating closely with firmware through a robust communication layer (Brista) that supports both internal system coordination and external connectivity (serial for prototyping, Wi-Fi for production).
  • Analytics: Own analytics for user interactions, on-device Business Intelligence, and stability analysis. Proactively address issues at staging before they go into production.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the software development, product management, and QA teams to ensure that the entire development and release process is smooth and efficient.
  • Identify potential risks in software development and create strategies to mitigate them, ensuring the safety and efficacy of our appliances.
  • Integration of AI:
    • Heavily involved in defining and implementing AI workflow
    • Design and implementation: Leverage AI to improve efficiency to convert Figma Design to real implementation.
    • Code Review: help integrate AI for code review, and other activities on GitHub
Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in firmware engineering, with experience in real-time operating systems (RTOS); C/C++
  • Some experience with End-to-End testing on a connected device, which is connected to a mobile app and AWS backend.
  • Strong understanding of what analytics can help improve user experience and provide product insights in the field.
  • Hands-on experience with development and debugging using devkit and real devices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MQTT or other IoT communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with testing and debugging for IoT hardware devices.
  • Experience with mobile app integration.
  • Familiarity with OTA partitions.
  • Familiarity with hardware interfaces and programming for flashing firmware to embedded devices.
  • System Architecture, memory architecture and performance benchmarking.

Salary Range: $180,000-200,000
