Job Description

Organizational Summary:

The USF Office of Internal Audit (IA) provides independent, objective assurance and advisory services designed to add value and improve university operations. IA’s mission is to enhance and protect organizational value through risk-based and objective assurance, advice, and insight and assist the university in achieving its strategic goals by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluating and improving the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and control processes. IA is responsible for coordinating activities that promote accountability, integrity, and efficiency in the operations of USF. All internal auditing activities are conducted in conformance with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS). Position Summary:

The Auditor position performs audits, internal control reviews, and advisory engagements for USF, DSOs and HSSOsin accordance with professional standards. Evaluates the design and effectiveness of internal controls, the efficiency of processes, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and USF System policies and procedures. Assists Senior Auditors and Assistant Directors with components of more complex engagements. Ensures assigned work is completed efficiently, accurately, and in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Participates as a team member in operational and financial audits, internal control reviews and advisory engagements. Evaluates the effectiveness of departmental processes, business systems, and internal controls across a range of operational activities. Conducts risk assessments and control evaluations within assigned areas in accordance with professional standards, and communicates results to management both verbally and in writing. Prepares clear and well-documented work papers to support audit procedures and conclusions. Assists in the preparation of audit reports, as appropriate, and participates in follow-up activities to assess the resolution of recommendations. Researches, interprets, and applies University policies and applicable regulations to support activities.
  • Utilizes technology (data analysis, artificial intelligence, etc.) to assist with the performance of IA projects and assists with the assessment of technology-driven controls & risks, as appropriate.
  • Promotes positive working relationships by participating in university committees/advisory groups, responding to management inquiries, and attending training and education programs. Promotes the Internal Audit Profession. Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires a Masters degree in accounting or other appropriate area of specialization; or a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited institution or a Bachelor's degree in Business from an accredited institution and 1 year of internal audit or equivalent experience.

Degree Equivalency Clause: Six years of direct experience for a master's degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree with at least one year of internal audit or equivalent experience, or a bachelor's degree with at least two years internal audit or equivalent experience. CPA or CIA certification is preferred.
