The Role

The Business Development Director – Wool & Cotton (BDD) is a full-time employee of Austrade, reporting to the Trade & Investment Commissioner South Asia.

Based at the Austrade office within the Australian High Commission in Dhaka, you will have a deep understanding of the South Asia textiles sector with particular focus on the Bangladesh market with relevant experience and skills to support Wool Producers Australia and Australian Cotton Shippers Association to achieve their industry’s trade expansion interests in the market.

You will also have deep industry, distribution and Government networks within the Bangladesh textiles sector to generate market expansion opportunities for Australian wool and cotton growers, processors and exporters.

You will work in close coordination with Wool Producers Australia and Australian Cotton Shippers Association to develop and execute activities that align with their Trade Diversification Plans in the Bangladesh market.

Duties include

  • Identify regional industry trends, major policy changes and assess their impact on trade opportunities and provide insights into the development of trade strategies for Australia.
  • Promote market engagement opportunities through effective use of Austrade’s online presence, prepare and publish regular insights and success stories for increased two-way market literacy between Australia and Bangladesh.
  • Manage and grow a client portfolio, providing customised services to assist Australian wool, cotton and textile businesses with market entry or expansion in Bangladesh and generate commercial outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities to promote Australia as a world-class exporter of fibre and/or textile-related products, services and knowledge in this sector at relevant conferences and business events.
  • Represent Austrade and Australia by playing a key role in promoting and supporting Australian business, optimising existing and establishing new business networks to take advantage of trade and investment opportunities.
  • Promote market engagement opportunities through effective use of Austrade’s online presence.
  • Assist in-market visits of Australian companies to raise the profile of Australian sustainable wool and cotton.
  • Gather intelligence on supply chains to key brands and changes in their sourcing strategies down the supply chain

Eligibility

To be eligible for consideration and appointment you must have:

  • Work Authorisation - to be eligible for employment with Austrade in Bangladesh, candidates must be legally authorised to live and work in Bangladesh at the time of appointment.
  • Language - the successful candidate must be a highly motivated team member, fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Security Clearance - the successful applicant must be willing to complete an Entry Level Screening Pack and be confirmed as a suitable person to access Government resources prior to commencement in the role.
