The Role

The office of Tourism and the Visitor Economy (OTVE) has recently been established to amplify Austrade’s role and capacity to deliver beneficial outcomes for the Australian tourism and visitor economy sectors, in accordance with its statutory responsibilities.

The head of the Office will be responsible for the delivery of outcomes through:

  • leadership of high-quality policy development to support implementation of THRIVE 2030 – the national strategy for the long-term sustainable growth of Australia’s visitor economy
  • oversight of the functions of Tourism Research Australia
  • influential stakeholder engagement
  • establishment of a high-performance team culture.

A key element of the role is close collaboration with an extensive set of stakeholders, including portfolio partner Tourism Australia; other Commonwealth entities responsible for policies and activities relevant to the tourism and visitor economy sectors; state and territory governments; and the tourism industry. The General Manager OTVE also collaborates closely within Austrade to deliver integrated tourism, trade and investment outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

The General Manager OTVE is responsible for: 2. Tourism Research Australia (TRA) 3. Stakeholder engagement 4. Internal collaboration 5. High performance culture

  • Tourism policy development and implementation
  • Leading the development of evidence-based policies to support outcomes for the Australian tourism and visitor economy sectors.
  • Prioritisation of divisional effort on the highest impact policy areas.
  • Implementation of policy to deliver tangible benefits to the tourism and visitor economy sectors.
  • Overseeing the delivery of high quality TRA publications that are targeted at stakeholder needs and uphold the highest statistical standards.
  • Ensuring TRA’s continued access to quality data sources.
  • Effective and influential engagement with Commonwealth Government agencies responsible for tourism-relevant policies to optimise tourism and visitor economy sector outcomes.
  • Effective engagement with state and territory governments to ensure a whole-of-nation approach to tourism and the visitor economy.
  • Strategic engagement with industry stakeholders to ensure effective two-way communication flow.
  • Bringing a highly collaborative whole-of-agency approach to deliver integrated tourism, trade and investment outcomes.
  • Working closely with agency corporate areas to ensure OTVE is well-integrated within the organisation.
  • Nurturing divisional capability to enable delivery of expected outcomes.
  • Creating a positive, high-performing and innovative divisional culture.

Eligibility

  • Australian Citizenship – Our successful candidate must be an Australian citizen.
  • Security Clearance – Our successful candidate is required to hold, or have the ability to obtain, and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 2 security clearance.
