Position Title: Bus Aide
Department/ Section: Transportation
Supervisor: Director of Transportation
Hourly Rate: $18.00 - $18.75/hour (depending on experience).
Pay Grade: 21
Schedule: Up to 40 hours/week; Benefits offered based on hours (30 hours/week), Arizona State Retirement Sytem based on hours (20 hours/week)
Summary Of Function
Assist district transportation bus drivers with students on school busses and other vehicles to ensure their safety and policy compliance. Must be able to work as a team with the Bus Driver and communicate positively in an effective and efficient manner.
Typical Tasks
- Assist students to ensure safety when boarding and de-boarding the school bus and crossing the streets.
- Assist driver loading and unloading children using assistive equipment; Ensure wheelchairs and other equipment are tied down properly and secured at all times.
- Responsible for supporting the maintenance and appearance of the vehicle interior including seat belts, locating and returning lost items, and trash.
- Maintain discipline of children on the vehicle supporting, and under the direction of, the driver to meet district policy and safety requirements.
- Report any malfunction or need for repairs immediately to leadership.
- Create, support, and maintain a positive bus environment for all students
- Assist special education students with hygiene and other needs when warranted.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent certification is required.
- Experience working with special education children is desirable.
- Must be knowledgeable of First Aid Procedures (first aid cert suggested)
- Valid DPS fingerprint card and pass background check
- Estimated length of time (one week) required for new entrant to achieve acceptable level proficiency.
- Must be willing to work with children in different age groups as well as with children of varying disabilities.
- Must be able to assist children and maintain discipline while on a moving vehicle despite disruptive activities
- Must be able to participate in required training such as orientation sessions and safety/training meetings.
