As a Lead Biologist, you will join our early drug discovery and translational sciences team based in Belgium. The team supports early-stage drug discovery programs, primarily focused on small molecules with a strong emphasis on disease biology and the development of translational strategies.

You will be responsible for the design and coordination of in vitro and in vivo studies with external biology service providers (CROs) and academic partners. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Lead Chemist, Project Leader and Project Manager. You will contribute to decision-making by integrating and interpreting biological data, as well as presenting insights to internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

What will you do?
  • Lead biology activities within multi-disciplinary project teams
  • In vitro and in vivo pharmacological profiling of new molecules
  • Organize advanced ADME and PK experiments
  • Support translational activities for both discovery and development projects
  • Integrate diverse datasets (pharmacology, biomarkers, ADME-DMPK and safety)
  • Good knowledge of the compound properties, assays and models needed for compound optimisation and progression.
  • Build correlations to understand the drivers of exposure and efficacy, e.g. PK/PD relationships
  • Propose next steps and next compounds to be tested
  • Efficiently outsource biology work
  • Contribute to selection of contract research organizations (CROs), the setup of contracts and proposals, including milestones and budgets in close interaction with the Research Project Manager.
  • Have a strong input into the technical aspects and design of experiments
  • Monitor the right execution and proper reporting of the experiments
  • Support the selection of new targets
  • Provide support for the selection of the target
  • Provide literature summaries in support of our programs
  • Organize experiments for validation
  • Ensure an efficient communication
  • Prepare presentations to communicate new data, including interpretation and perspective from historical data
  • Present at project meetings and meetings with CROs
  • Work in close interaction with the Project Leader and the Lead Chemist on the projects

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Who are you?
  • PhD in the field of biotechnology or biology (or equivalent experience)
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in pharmacology in a drug discovery environment, with evidence for working on multiple target classes
  • Track record reflecting experience in pharmacology and drug discovery, either through scientific or patent literature.
  • Experience with tools allowing analysis of pharmacology data, e.g. Excel, GraphPad
  • Strong knowledge of the different key aspects of the drug discovery process is required, including in vitro and in vivo pharmacology, ADME and DMPK
  • Pro-active, solution-oriented and performance-driven.
  • Team player with excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Fluent in English, written and spoken
