The Office of Tourism and the Visitor Economy (OTVE), situated within Austrade, leads the development of tourism and visitor economy policy for the Australian Government, delivers tourism initiatives and provides tourism data and insights.
Tourism Research Australia (TRA) is a branch within OTVE that leads the production and analysis of Australia’s official tourism statistics. It is also Australia’s leading provider of quality tourism intelligence across both international and domestic markets. Our data underpins government tourism policy decisions, supports industry development, and contributes to delivery of the THRIVE 2030 national strategy for long-term sustainable growth of the visitor economy.

Duties Include
- Leading data processing, analysis, reporting and dissemination activities relating to the quarterly release of the IVS and DoTS
- Managing the development and maintenance of programs/code in languages such as SAS, R and/or Python
- Working with 3rd party and big data sources, including leading development of innovative approaches to using data, exploration of different data sources, management and drawing of data and insights
- High-level analysis and reporting of tourism-related data, noting trends and insights.
- Management and oversight of large-scale survey questionnaire design and collection processes
- Working collaboratively with the team at Austrade, contracted agencies, state and territory governments and a range of external stakeholders to understand and deliver on data and research priorities
- Managing the maintenance and improvements of TRA systems used for data processing activities and producing statistical products and advice
- Managing the administration of TRA data holdings, including development and maintenance of relevant documentation
- Contract management and procurement of services from external service providers
- Communicating outputs clearly and effectively through written reports to senior managers, publications, and via data visualisations
- Effectively overseeing the delivery of both long-term projects and short-term commitments
- Fostering an inclusive and effective team culture focused on continuous learning, evaluation and improvement of skills, processes and outcomes.
- Providing specialist technical support to funding partners, TRA colleagues and other data users
- Project management of TRA deliverables and publications
