As a Training Specialist - DSP Lead, your role is to provide hands-on support and guidance that empowers participants to achieve their goals and enhance their independence with work activities. You’ll work closely with participants, the training team, and their families to create a vibrant, respectful, and safe learning environment. You'll attend participant meetings, write individual goals, and complete paperwork as required.
- Create, Implement, and Support Participant Goals: Write and assist in implementing both formal and informal goals to help participants build skills and increase independence across a range of daily activities.
- Lead: Lead a program area of 10-15 participants and staff. Help create meaningful activities to engage individuals.
- Communication: Interact with families, caregivers and other professionals for the best interest of the agency and participants.
- Engage in Meaningful Activities: Facilitate engaging tasks and activities, ensuring participants are actively involved in functional and rewarding experiences throughout the day.
- Promote Independence: Help participants complete tasks in a way that encourages growth and greater self-sufficiency.
- Assist with Work Skills: Be knowledgeable about in-house jobs and support participants in completing tasks to a high standard.
- Maintain a Clean and Organized Environment: Ensure that all program areas and workstations are kept clean, safe, and orderly.
- Accurate Data Collection: Record essential program data on a daily basis to track progress and outcomes. Complete monthly data review of participant goals.
- Foster Positive Relationships: Communicate effectively with staff, participants, families, and case managers to ensure that everyone is informed and involved in the program’s success.
- Provide Assistance with Personal Care: Offer support to participants as needed with eating, mobility, and personal care tasks.
- Collaborative Teamwork: Work closely with staff, other agencies, and family members to provide seamless services and support.
- Safety First: Supervise participants throughout the day, ensuring their well-being and safety in all activities.
We’re seeking a compassionate, reliable, and collaborative individual who is excited about making a difference in the lives of adults with developmental disabilities. The ideal candidate will be:
- Team-Oriented: Able to work cooperatively with staff, participants, and families in a supportive and respectful environment.
- Dependable: Punctual and committed to working your scheduled shifts, and willing to follow through on tasks and requests.
- Creative Problem-Solver: Able to think on your feet and come up with creative solutions to challenges that may arise.
- Effective Communicator: Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to maintain clear and respectful communication with others.
- Empathetic and Supportive: Able to provide positive interactions, promote confidence, and encourage the growth of participants in all settings.
- Adaptable: Willing to work across a variety of tasks, including assisting with transportation (bus routes) and performing general program duties.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Preferred—at least one year of experience working with adults with developmental disabilities. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Skills: A willingness to learn and engage in ongoing training to continuously improve your knowledge and abilities.
