Alcove Centre for the Arts
Alcove Centre for the Arts is a nonprofit organization based in Calgary, AB, with the aim of making art more accessible and promoting a vibrant arts & culture sector.
Alcove operates a recreational art space in downtown Calgary, Alcove Core, where we host workshops, events, and a drop-in art space open to the public with free art supplies and instruments. Our programming spans a wide range of mediums including visual arts, music, textiles, crafts, creative writing, and more. We also support community-led programming and collaborate with local artists and organizations.
Recently, we expanded our work with a second location, Alcove Beltline, which provides an affordable rental venue to support community arts programming in Calgary.
About the Role
We’re looking for a motivated, organized, and community-minded Program Coordinator to support the planning, coordination, and administration of Alcove’s summer programming.
This role is ideal for an emerging arts worker interested in community arts, event coordination, and working closely with local artists and participants. You will play a key role in supporting programs, engaging with the community, and helping ensure events run smoothly.
This is a 10-week seasonal position (30 hours/week) funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program, with the possibility of extension into a part-time role based on organizational needs and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Program & Event Coordination
- Assist with planning, scheduling, and organizing programs such as Jam Sessions, Window Case Concerts, Workshops, Creative Mixers, and Raw Voices.
- Schedule facilitators and performers, and manage related communications and logistics
- Coordinate logistics for in-person programming, including setup, Eventbrite registration, and on-site support
- Communicate program details to participants, partners, and community members
- Support program delivery onsite at least 2 days per week (Wednesday–Sunday hours, with occasional Monday/Tuesday events)
Artist Outreach & Recruitment
- Conduct outreach to local artists, performers, and facilitators
- Support artist recruitment, onboarding, and development of an artist database
- Assist with booking artists, preparing contracts, and maintaining communications
Administration
- Support day-to-day administrative tasks (email correspondence, document preparation, data entry)
- Maintain organized records related to programs, artists, and contracts
- Assist with program evaluation and reporting
Qualifications
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Interest in the arts, community engagement, and event coordination
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable communicating with artists and the public
- Basic proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office
- Must own a personal laptop and have access to the internet
Eligibility (Canada Summer Jobs Requirements)
Applicants must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of employment
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee protection status
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada
Work Conditions
- Hybrid role, with a minimum of 2 shifts per week onsite at 244 7 Ave SW
- Thursday evening availability is required
- Additional shifts may include evenings and weekends based on programming needs
