Ready to turn your technical expertise into groundbreaking innovations?

At Arnold & Siedsma, you’ll have the unique opportunity to combine your technical expertise with legal challenges. As a Trainee Patent Attorney, you are the link between innovation and protection. You help companies safeguard their inventions and ensure that groundbreaking ideas are not lost.

What does a patent attorney do?

A patent attorney is a technical-legal expert who advises companies on protecting their innovations. You translate complex technology into clear legal documents and defend intellectual property rights both nationally and internationally. This role requires not only technical knowledge but also strategic insight and strong communication skills.

What will you do?

  • Advise innovative companies on protecting knowledge, products, and processes.
  • Draft, file, and manage patent applications in Belgium, the Netherlands, Europe, and beyond.
  • Provide infringement and validity advice.
  • Prepare legal proceedings in intellectual property disputes.
  • Translate and analyze patents.

You will start working in practice immediately while following a training program to become a certified patent attorney (Dutch and European). This training takes about four years and is fully funded by us. After completion, you may call yourself a Dutch, Belgian, and European Patent Attorney.

What do you bring?

  • A completed master’s degree in engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Physics.
  • You are a native Dutch or French speaker (bilingual is a plus) and have an excellent command of English.
  • Additional languages such as German, Japanese, Chinese, or Korean are an advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills, customer focus, affinity with legal processes, and excellent language proficiency.

What do we offer?

  • A full-time permanent contract.
  • A market-based starting salary with opportunities for rapid progression.
  • Paid training to become a patent attorney (Dutch and European).
  • International career opportunities thanks to our recent partnership with Rouse.
  • A collegial atmosphere with team outings, social events, and an annual office day!
