We are seeking a highly motivated Deputy Project Manager to support the delivery of a major pumped storage hydropower project in Spain. The successful candidate will assist the Project Manager in overseeing all aspects of project execution, with a particular focus on civil engineering works, including tunnels, shafts, dams, underground caverns, and hydraulic structures. This project will be based in Ponferrada, near Leon and we offer certain flexibility location-wise.
Your accountabilities
- Support the Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and executing all phases of the project lifecycle.
- Lead and supervise civil engineering activities, ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
- Coordinate with design teams, contractors, and consultants to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of civil works.
- Monitor construction progress, manage risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
- Prepare and review technical documentation, reports, and schedules.
- Participate in stakeholder meetings and represent the project in technical discussions with authorities and partners.
- Ensure quality control and adherence to contractual obligations.
- Assist in budget management and cost tracking related to civil components.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in large infrastructure or hydropower projects, preferably including pumped storage.
- Proven experience in managing or coordinating civil works on complex construction sites with Capex > 20 MEuros.
- Strong understanding of geotechnical, hydraulic, and structural engineering principles.
- Familiarity with Spanish construction regulations and permitting processes is an asset.
- Excellent communication skills in English; Spanish proficiency is a strong advantage.
- Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
- Experience with underground works (tunnels, caverns).
- Knowledge of FIDIC or similar contract frameworks.
- Ability to work in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment.
- Proficiency in project management tools (Primavera, MS Project, etc.).
