Description

This position is in-office every day at our East Point location, and the schedule is Sunday – Thursday. This person must be available to work weekends and flexible hours, as needed 7am-4pm or 10am-7pm.

The Atlanta Community Food Bank is working to end hunger in our community with the food, people and big ideas needed so that no one worries where their next meal is coming from. Since 1979, we’ve been providing food for a growing network of nonprofit partners – including food pantries, community kitchens, childcare centers, night shelters and senior centers. We currently serve more than 700 partners in 29 counties across metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

About The Role

This hands-on leadership role oversees day-to-day warehouse operations for produce-focused cross-docking, including shipping, receiving, and order fulfillment. The position is responsible for ensuring compliance with food safety standards, maintaining a clean and organized warehouse environment, and promoting a strong culture of employee safety. The Manager I, Operations (produce shipping & receiving) leads, coaches, and engages supervisors and frontline employees to meet productivity, quality, and service-level objectives while supporting the Food Bank’s mission. This role is highly involved on the warehouse floor, providing direct leadership to the assigned team to drive operational efficiency, uphold quality standards, and ensure safe execution of all processes.

What You’ll Do

Supports Team:

  • Establishes clear daily/weekly performance objectives, and work assignments for assigned staff to support departmental goals.
  • Coaches, mentors, and develops team members to ensure effective performance, skill growth, and role readiness.
  • Manages employee relations and leads talent management activities, including hiring, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, in accordance with company policy.
  • Leads regular departmental huddles to promote employee engagement, communicate updates to policies and procedures, address team concerns, and encourage collaboration and continuous improvement.

Operations And Warehousing

  • Oversees the receipt of all inbound product to support cross-docking operations.
  • Manages daily workload distribution and ensures a safe work environment for staff.
  • Reviews operational volume and establishes daily priorities to ensure clerking accuracy, and on-time completeness.
  • Directs, coordinates, and monitors daily cross-docking activities and team performance to ensure compliance with company policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality and safety standards.
  • Develops, and proposes continuous processes and systems improvements for operational efficiency, throughput, and accuracy.
  • Assists with defining clear accountability structures and performance metrics, and measurable goals for assigned team.

What You’ll Need: Skills and Experience your resume should demonstrate:

  • Experience working with food, perishables, temperature sensitive products and food safety standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing warehouse operations, which may include, inventory control, order fulfillment, receiving, shipping, and storage.
  • Proven leadership skills in supervising and developing warehouse staff, providing training, guidance, and performance feedback to ensure team productivity and effectiveness.
  • Knowledge of logistics and supply chain management principles, including transportation, distribution, procurement, and warehouse staff management.
  • Understanding warehouse safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and compliance requirements related to workplace safety, equipment operation, and hazardous materials handling.
  • Able to identify operational inefficiencies, propose process improvements, and optimizing workflows to enhance productivity and efficiency in the warehouse.
  • Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and Microsoft Office Suite for data analysis, reporting, and communication.
  • Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues, resolve challenges, and make data-driven decisions to improve warehouse operations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively communicate with team members, supervisors, cross-functional teams, and external stakeholders.

  • This position would normally have routine opportunities to alter physical position or change eye focus.
