Position Overview
Athena is seeking an experienced Environmental Geologist/Scientist with 10+ years of experience to support and lead environmental investigation and remediation projects across the U.S.
This role is approximately 40–60% field-based and requires strong technical expertise, leadership, and project management capability. You will be responsible for managing projects from planning through execution, mentoring staff, and ensuring successful delivery aligned with client expectations, schedules, and budgets.

Position Overview
Athena is seeking an experienced Environmental Geologist/Scientist with 10+ years of experience to support and lead environmental investigation and remediation projects across the U.S.
This role is approximately 40–60% field-based and requires strong technical expertise, leadership, and project management capability. You will be responsible for managing projects from planning through execution, mentoring staff, and ensuring successful delivery aligned with client expectations, schedules, and budgets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and execute environmental site investigations and remediation projects
- Conduct and oversee: o Asbestoscontaining materials (ACM) surveys
- Lead-based paint surveys oGroundwater monitoring and sampling
- Soil and vapor intrusion investigations
- Oversee subcontractors and coordinate field activities
- Manage operation, maintenance, and monitoring of remediation systems
- Prepare and review field documentation, logs, and photographic records
- Author and review technical reports, data summaries, and figures
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, including scope, schedule, and budget
- Develop project work plans, cost estimates, and proposals
- Track project financials, including budgets, invoicing, and profitability
- Serve as primary point of contact for clients and maintain strong client relationships
- Coordinate internal teams and subcontractors to ensure efficient project execution
- Identify and manage project risks and implement solutions proactively
- Ensure deliverables meet quality standards and deadlines
- Support business development efforts, including proposal writing and client engagement
- Mentor junior staff and support team development
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or related field
- 10+ years of environmental consulting and field investigation experience
- Demonstrated project management experience, including budgeting and client coordination
- Professional Geologist (PG) license or ability to obtain (Tennessee preferred)
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fastpaced environment
- Willingness to travel and work outdoors in varying conditions
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- 40hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification (current)
- 10hour OSHA Construction certification
- Tennessee ACM Inspector/Monitor Accreditation
- Tennessee Lead Inspector Accreditation
