Position Summary

The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing the daily financial operations of the organization ensuring financial health and sustainability. The Director ensures adherence to nonprofit accounting standards, grant and contract requirements, and healthcare regulations, while partnering with leadership to advance the organization's mission.

Core Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Responsible for all aspects of the Fiscal Department including budgeting, general ledger, inventory accounts receivable, accounts payable, financial statements and coordination of external audits
  • Oversee the financial strategic planning of the company by evaluating its performance and potential risks
  • Monitor actuals vs. budget and provide regular variance analysis
  • Develop budgets and financial forecasts for licensed and grant-funded positions and potential for service expansion
  • Translate financial data into actionable insights for program and operational leaders
  • Prepare internal reports and dashboard for leadership and Board review operational leaders
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting in accordance with GAAP for nonprofits
  • Ensure timely submission and compliance will all agency reporting requirements to funding/contract sources.
  • Work closely with clinical and billing teams to optimize revenue integrity
  • Coordinate annual audits and serve as primary liaison with external auditors
  • Supervise finance staff (e.g., accountants, billing specialists)
  • Foster a collaborative, mission-driven team culture
  • Provide training to non-financial managers on budgeting and financial management
  • Performs related work as assigned/required.

Pre-requisite Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred)
  • Five (5) + years of financial management experience
  • Experience in nonprofit and/or behavioral healthcare preferred

Skills And Competencies

  • Strong financial analysis and strategic thinking skills
  • Deep knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems Proven experience as director of finance or similar role
  • High level of integrity and accountability
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP)
  • Experience with grant accounting and fund restrictions

Supervision: Supervision is provided to staff assigned to the fiscal department. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, stand, walk, carry items, and stoop. Prolonged periods of sitting at desk and working on a computer screen. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at a time.

Work Environment: On-site, office-based position. Employer will evaluate remote work requests and approve or deny it in writing.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Full-time, salaried/exempt. Typically, business hours. May require extended hours during budgeting or audit cycles.

Travel: Occasional travel between ACTS facilities, banks and direct service locations should be expected.
