Our team of specialist pathologists, scientists, technicians, phlebotomists, couriers, and shared services personnel deliver a world-class service that together collects, analyses, and reports over 7 million patient results annually.
Our Patient Services Department is responsible for the collection of blood samples and handling contained specimens, i.e., human blood, faeces, urine, tissue etc from patients within the community and the hospital. These samples are then processed and tested in our state-of-the-art medical laboratory.
About the role | Mō te tūranga:
Our Patient Services Department is currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Trainee to join our friendly team. This is a permanent, full-time position of 80 hours per fortnight.
This offers hands-on experience across multiple collection centres within WDHB Cluster 3C, including Devonport, Milford, Takapuna, and Northcote, as well as WDHB Cluster 2D, including Ranui, Te Atatu, Massey, Henderson, Kumeu, and Helensville.

Key Responsibilities:
- Collect blood samples from patients in both community and hospital settings.
- Handle and manage contained biological specimens, including blood, faeces, urine, and tissue, in accordance with safety and compliance standards.
- Ensure accurate labelling, handling, and transport of patient specimens.
- Support the processing and testing of specimens within a state-of-the-art medical laboratory.
- Maintain patient care, confidentiality, and quality standards at all times.
To be successful in this role you need to have:
- A positive and friendly approach to your work and demonstrate cultural and social sensitivity.
- Compassion for others, including a real desire to provide high-quality care to a wide variety of patients of all ages and circumstances.
- Excellent customer service skills including a high level of personal presentation.
- Strong attention to detail and an ability to follow processes accurately, even when under pressure.

- Good computer skills.
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
