Join a leading tertiary education provider that plays a key role in shaping Aotearoa's future! This organisation is investing in strengthening its HR technology environment and is searching for an experienced Senior HR Applications Specialist to support, optimise, and evolve its HR and payroll systems.

In this role, you will provide specialist technical oversight across core HR applications, including system security, troubleshooting, vendor liaison, testing, and continuous improvement. You will be the go to expert for system issues, enhancements, and data integrity, ensuring HR systems run smoothly and effectively for a large and complex workforce.

You will work closely with HR, Digital Solutions, vendors, and wider stakeholders to support system projects, manage releases, improve processes, and enhance user experience. This is an opportunity to influence how HR systems operate at an enterprise level and contribute to ongoing development across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Working across day to day HCM and payroll system queries, identifying root causes and advising on the appropriate configuration response.
Supporting system stability and standardisation, ensuring reliable and consistent HCM processes across the organisation.
Playing a key role in moving the single source of truth from Ascender to Oracle HCM.
Contributing to HCM improvement work, including delivery of individual enhancements, new features, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Participating in the implementation of new online service tools to uplift the employee and manager experience.
Providing advanced technical support across HR and payroll applications, including security, access, testing, troubleshooting, and vendor liaison.
Maintaining and developing system environments, test plans, and release processes.
Offering specialist advice to system users, HR stakeholders, Digital Solutions teams, and vendors.

About You

Experience working with HR and payroll applications in large and complex environments.
Exposure to Oracle HCM is preferred, although strong user level experience will still be considered.
Background working with automated HR or payroll functions, ideally including Ascender.
Confident working through system issues, interpreting data, and advising on configuration responses.
Skilled in testing, process improvement, and supporting the delivery of new HCM features.
Able to balance BAU support with project and enhancement activity.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships across HR, technology teams, and external vendors.

This role will suit someone who enjoys solving complex problems, bringing structure to technical challenges, and supporting HR to deliver high quality services across a diverse organisation. Some hybrid working is on offer, with one day per week working-from-home as standard.
