The Opportunity

As a Researcher, Energy and Environment, you will will be situated within our Environmental Services Division in Calgary but will work closely with our Energy Division. The Researcher will be responsible for interactions with clients; technical proposals and contracts; project management; analysis and interpretation of experimental results; collaboration and interaction with colleagues; and interaction with external experts. This position will be responsible for technical leadership in in-situ recovery projects, focused on improving oil and gas recovery for western Canadian operators. Our experimental research/contract projects investigate multiphase fluid flow in porous media to develop technologies that improve the production of oil and gas. InnoTech is also developing several projects in the area of alternative energies and well remediation.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for duties that will include:

  • Actively contribute to safety programs and culture, including creation of relevant process and documents and communication to employees.
  • Develop new projects and programs by preparing proposals and budgets for presentation to external clients to solicit funding support. Take an active role in both initiating and following up with clients during project development.
  • Use and apply innovative technical capabilities to design projects and programs (including experiments), oversee execution, analyze data and draw conclusions.
  • Implement work plans, including organizing and overseeing project teams, managing budgets and resources using standard project management approaches.
  • Provide consultation on projects within the Division and with others to enhance multi-disciplinary capabilities.
  • Negotiate and arrange contractual agreements with clients.

Required

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum MSc degree in engineering (Petroleum, Chemical, Reservoir focus preferred), additional work experience may be substituted for education, if appropriate
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience, advanced degree may be substituted for work experience, if appropriate
  • APEGA member (if engineer)
  • Key Technical skills include:
  • experimental design and analysis (lab, field) at various scales
  • numerical simulation at various scales (from lab to field simulation)
  • development and application of machine learning or other artificial intelligence techniques to support data analysis
  • solid knowledge of fluid behavior and multiphase flow in porous media
  • application of multidisciplinary technical solutions to address client needs
  • Key business skills include:
  • Ability to facilitate and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Self-starter that can articulate tasks and effectively delegate, encourage, and monitor the progress of others
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and project management skills
  • Strong written communication skills, demonstrated through technical reports and proposals
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to produce required outcomes and prioritize multiple tasks, competing agendas, and heavy client demands
  • People management and leadership skills
  • Interest in coaching and mentoring junior staff
  • Experience working with remote teams for effective project development and implementation
  • Negotiation, conflict management, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Basic understanding of contract elements and process
  • Ability to be flexible and responsive to changing priorities and requirements
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and development
