The impact you will make:
Agios Pharmaceuticals is searching for a dynamic Senior Director, General Manager and Strategic Alliance Lead, International Partner Markets to join the Global Commercial Strategy and Access Team. This is a very exciting time to join our team, as Pyrukynd has secured approval and was recently launched for thalassemia in the US, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Launch preparation is also underway in Europe and there is potential to expand in all regions to Sickle Cell Disease with regulatory filing preparations underway on the back of meaningful Phase III data. While Agios has a commercial team in the US, Agios has chosen to partner with two strong companies in the GCC (Gulf Corporation Council) and Europe, Newbridge Pharmaceuticals and Avanzanite Biosciences, who are leading distribution and commercialization of Pyrukynd in each respective region. The General Manager and Strategic Alliance Lead, International Partner Markets, will be accountable for the commercial performance, overall business execution, operating model, P&L, and overall alliance with these two partners. This role represents an opportunity for an individual with deep international commercial experience to lead Agios’ first expansion outside of the US in rare disease – shaping how Agios can maximize reaching patients outside the US. This individual reports to the VP, Global Strategy and International Commercialization.
What you will do:
- Own the overall performance – P&L – in partner markets including the GCC and Europe. There is potential opportunity for expansion into additional markets in the future.
- Serve as the strategic alliance lead for each partnership, organizing every Joint Steering Committee, Quarterly Business Review, and ongoing functional collaboration.
- Drive a transparent, collaborative, and connected culture with our partners. Meet with partners near daily as the face of Agios.
- Cultivate and build strong cross functional relationships within Agios, including with the Global Commercial Lead, Market Access, Medical, HEOR, Supply Chain and other key functions across the Pyrukynd business to incorporate broader global strategy into local execution with partners.
- Define Agios’ brand presence and performance outside the US in partner markets.
- Contribute to the overall ex-US expansion strategy for Agios, as applicable, partnering across a wide breadth of functions.
- Give a perspective of how much influence, autonomy and direction a person in this role will have in a variety of areas
- Include management of internal staff or external resources
- Bachelor’s degree in business or science related field; MBA or PhD a plus
- At least 15 years’ experience in pharma / biotech
- Deep International commercial experience – particularly in the GCC and Europe – including sales, marketing, and commercial strategy. Successfully drive regulatory, access and commercial timelines and objectives.
- Experience leading with an alliance partner; prior experience managing a distribution partner a plus
- Strong commercial understanding of rare diseases, including rare blood indications
- Excellent communication and presentation skills. They will be able to gain credibility, engender trust and influence all levels – both within Agios as well as across our partner companies.
- Operate with a sense of urgency. Accountability to make timely decisions with well-balanced analysis and intuition, drive executional excellence, strong project management skills
- Ability to thrive in a cross-functional, highly collaborative, and fast-paced environment. Naturally connects and builds strong relationships with peers
- Agility to search and respond to drivers of changes, challenge the status quo, mobilize resources, and learn with an open mind
This role will require travel – generally between 1-2 weeks per month. Travel will be required to meet with partners in the GCC and Europe, attend conferences, and occasionally visit Agios headquarters in Boston, USA for major internal

Work Location:
Switzerland/Remote: Work location for this role is remote within Switzerland. Remote employees work entirely from home except for attending Company sponsored events and meetings, and for work related travel as described above.
