In this role, you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and enhancement of both new and existing products. Your responsibilities will include creating detailed CAD models, design sub-assemblies & assemblies, and ensuring design modifications meet both functional and manufacturing requirements. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful execution of product designs and the achievement of project goals.
Key Accountabilities
Design & Development
- Create mechanical models and CAD drawings for new products and maintain existing product designs.
- Prepare detailed, production-quality CAD drawings and review for accuracy and completeness.
- Perform Engineering calculation with minimal supervision.
- Perform Engineering simulation under supervision.
- Apply design-for-assembly principles and cost considerations throughout the design process.
- Ability to apply appropriate GD &T within component drawing based on the assembly and controlling key design aspect.
- Perform tolerance stack-ups for sub-assemblies and assemblies.
- Contribute to Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and other product-related analyses.
- Participate in detailed design review for new components and product launches.
- Work closely with cross functional teams in value stream such as product teams, quality and manufacturing personnel to address design challenges and resolve issues.
- Collaborate with suppliers and regulatory bodies to obtain necessary product certifications.
- Engage with sales and customer service teams to understand and address customer-driven needs.
- Maintain BOM & Drawings in PLM system.
- Provide input on process improvements, including opportunities to enhance documentation practices and design efficiency.
- Liaise with testing and regulatory agencies to obtain necessary certifications.
- Develop and adhere to internal and global design standards.
- Work with sales and customer service teams to address customer-driven needs.
To Thrive In This Role, You Should Bring
Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (required).
- 4+ years of experience working with design engineering in manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge or experience of centrifugal pump design and manufacturing is an asset.
- Experience in designing rotating equipment is a plus.
- Experience working with electromechanical systems is a plus.
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks 3D, AutoCAD, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) standards.
- Experience in designing electromechanical systems and controls (preferred).
- Experience with PLM and ERP systems (e.g., Infor, SAP).
- Familiarity with scripting (e.g. Python)/SolidWorks APIs, Macros, and/or other design/development automation technics is a strong asset
- The capability to simplify complex problems, conduct root cause analysis, and provide clear, well-thought-out recommendations.
- Team-oriented leadership skills with a proactive approach.
- An ability to communicate openly and authentically in all situations.
