  • Review and interpret physician orders to verify accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness of therapy.
  • Monitor drug therapy regimens for contraindications, interactions, therapeutic duplications, and overall safety.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize patient outcomes and promote medication adherence.
  • Provide medication counseling and education to patients on proper medication use, potential side effects, and interactions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medication histories, allergies, and clinical interventions.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local pharmacy laws, regulations, and professional standards.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and security of medications, including monitoring for expired, damaged, or recalled products.
  • Participate in pharmacy quality assurance programs and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with inventory management, including ordering, stocking, and managing pharmaceutical supplies.
  • Deliver excellent customer service by addressing patient and provider inquiries, resolving issues, and promoting pharmacy services.
  • Stay current with developments in pharmacy practice and participate in ongoing professional development activities.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned to support the needs of the pharmacy and the broader team.

Essential Skills

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree.
  • Licensed pharmacist with eligibility to practice pharmacy in the applicable jurisdiction.
  • Strong clinical pharmacy knowledge, including experience in Drug Utilization Review (DUR) and drug interaction checks.
  • Proficiency in reviewing and interpreting physician orders for accuracy and therapeutic appropriateness.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct pharmacy technicians in a high-volume environment.
  • Experience in mail-order or centralized pharmacy operations, or strong interest in this practice setting.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients, clinics, and other healthcare providers by phone and electronically.
  • Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve errors in prescription processing and workflow.
  • Thorough understanding of federal, state, and local pharmacy laws and regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in dispensing and documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload in a fast-paced, growing pharmacy.
  • Customer service orientation with a focus on patient safety and satisfaction.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a mail-order or central fill pharmacy environment.
  • Experience with insurance-related processes in pharmacy, including coordination of benefits and resolving coverage issues.
  • Experience in pharmacy quality assurance or continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Comfort working with pharmacy information systems and technology for data entry, verification, and documentation.
  • Interest in contributing to a rapidly growing organization where new roles and processes are being developed.
  • Motivation to participate in ongoing professional development and stay current with advances in pharmacy practice.

Work Environment

This role is based in a mail-order pharmacy environment that operates Monday through Friday during the day, typically from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional overtime as needed. The position may involve working on a first or second shift, depending on operational requirements. You will primarily work outside of the production area, using a computer and phone to manage prescriptions, perform clinical reviews, and communicate with patients and providers. The pharmacy team currently includes three pharmacists and approximately twenty-two pharmacy technicians, reflecting a collaborative, team-oriented setting. The organization is actively expanding, including growth into additional physical space, offering opportunities to contribute to process improvements and the development of new roles.
