
Job Description
As an Interior Design Release Engineer (DRE), you will serve as a technical authority in vehicle instrument panels, specifically focusing on Cross Car beams and other IP structures under the dash. You will lead the engineering, integration, and launch of these systems with a focus on safety, quality, technical excellence, and flawless execution. The role demands strong engineering fundamentals, systems thinking, and technical rigor, with hands-on responsibility for CAD/package integration, supplier collaboration, and robust validation from early product definition through launch.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, analyze, implement, and validate complex instrument panel and console subsystems.
- Perform engineering design evaluations and concept development across vehicle programs.
- Utilize engineering tools and leverage CAE groups, including Safety Performance, to develop the best system solutions.
- Assess design to manufacturing processes such as injection molding, vibration welding, and vacuum forming.
- Manage CAD development through supplier or GM designers and ensure best practices are incorporated.
- Collaborate with other systems within the vehicle, such as Thermal, Electrical, and Body.
- Support initial vehicle configuration work, cost optimization, and implement product and process improvements.
- Communicate information to and from internal and external customer organizations.
- Lead launch activities with a quality and on-time execution mindset.
- Contribute to enterprise initiatives such as CAE-driven design and virtual execution.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace, Materials or related).
- 8–10 years of experience in the commodity: instrument panel, floor console, and decorative trim development.
- Subsystem expertise in injection molded trim, foam in place, thermoformed skins, and cut and sew wrapping.
- Proficiency in component/subsystem design and development, vehicle integration, and design for manufacturability.
- DFSS Green Belt required; Black Belt preferred.
- Mastery of DFSS tools to prevent defects and enable read across.
- Demonstrated ownership and urgency with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Project management capability; PMI/PMP preferred.
- Effective in change management and able to lead product development teams.
- Experience with stamping, welding, metal forming, and cutting.
- Proficiency with CAD workflows and release processes.
- Experience with MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, and CAD/visualization tools.
- Experience with magnesium injection/intrusion and high-end vehicle development.
- Interiors experience is very important.
- RedX and DFSS experience is nice to have.
- PMI or PMP certification preferred, not required.
The work environment offers a hybrid schedule with in-office work on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and remote work on Monday and Friday. You will be working in a diverse environment with opportunities for autonomous and EV experience. The culture is amazing, with a heavy studio interface and a focus on style, including plastic injection molding, chroming, painting, and working with different materials.

Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $54.00 - $56.00/hr.
