We are seeking a qualified Peace Officer to serve in a law enforcement capacity conducting comprehensive and confidential background investigations for both sworn and non-sworn candidates within the Division. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity and suitability of personnel through detailed investigative work, analysis, and reporting.


The ideal candidate will possess strong investigative abilities, sound judgment, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills. This position is subject to P.O.S.T. requirements and performs duties in accordance with California Penal Code section 830.3.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive and confidential background investigations for sworn and non-sworn applicants.
  • Meet with and interview applicants to gather and verify required documentation and information.
  • Research, analyze, and document personal, employment, financial, academic, military, legal/criminal, and driving histories.
  • Interview employers, acquaintances, neighbors, references, and other relevant sources.
  • Review prior background investigations and conduct follow-up interviews to resolve discrepancies or clarify findings.
  • Prepare detailed investigative background reports for management review and decision-making.
  • Report significant findings and investigative concerns to supervisors in a timely manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism throughout all stages of the investigative process.
  • Perform additional peace officer duties as required under California Penal Code section 830.3.
