As our Principal Engineer you will be responsible for one or more horizontal areas in the platform, driving the architecture and design of some critical components and frameworks in the Accolade Cloud Platform. You will collaborate with business stake holders to provide innovative solutions and packaging the platform capabilities into new products and offerings for Accolade customers. The part of your job will be to build evolutionary prototypes and proof-of-concepts to translate business inputs into a demonstrable application, service or workflow. You will need to deeply engage and collaborate with Executives, Technology/Business Stakeholders and Architects to enable a natural alignment of technology and Product roadmap. At the same time you needs to guide the development teams on patterns/best-practices as as they work on lower level nuances while simultaneously translating the architecture into implementation.

A day in the life…

• Lead technical initiatives: Take ownership of projects by analyzing requirements, communicating findings, and driving initiatives forward while effectively presenting recommendations to senior and executive leadership. Partner closely with engineering teams to understand their challenges and provide innovative, effective solutions that address these.
• Design, develop and operate cloud infrastructure: Architect, build, and maintain shared AWS-based infrastructure powering company applications and services running on ECS, EKS, and Lambda platforms.
• Automate and enable self-service: Develop infrastructure as code automation platform using TypeScript and Python to automate AWS resource provisioning, enabling other teams to work independently and efficiently with AWS infrastructure.
• Research and innovate: Stay current with the latest AWS technologies to continuously enhance the internal software delivery platform. Create scalable architecture and solutions with a strong focus on delivery excellence, driving standardization and best practices. Develop prototypes using industry best practices within established architectural frameworks and iterate to introduce cutting-edge long-term solutions.
• Mentor and consult: Provide tooling, guidance, and consultation to engineering teams while mentoring junior engineers to meet company standards and grow their technical expertise.
• Ensure reliability and support: Architect cloud application resiliency enabling solutions, participate in on-call rotations for AWS infrastructure issues, and serve as a subject matter expert for specific AWS domains.
• Embrace collaboration: Actively contribute as part of a globally distributed team using agile principles for self-organization and continuous improvement.
  
  

What We Are Looking For…

• 8+ years of relevant experience in Software Engineering and/or Cloud Platform Architecture and Design roles. This includes 4+ years of senior-level experience designing and implementing complex, high-impact internal delivery platforms. You should have experience with distributed and cloud-based architecture patterns and best practices. Proven success in delivering new features to production is essential.
• Proficiency in AWS cloud infrastructure with a focus on serverless and containerized solutions and their orchestration (Kubernetes, ECS). Expertise in TypeScript and Python programming languages is required. You should have a solid understanding of CDK and Terraform Infrastructure as Code frameworks.
• Experience with building infrastructure automation and seamlessly integrating these solutions into CI/CD pipelines and the software development lifecycle.
• A team player with strong interpersonal skills who thrives in globally distributed environments. You bring empathy and adaptability to collaborative problem-solving. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail are essential. You should combine learning capabilities with a talent for teaching and mentoring others.
• Someone with exceptional verbal and written communication skills who can create clear, concise, and well-organized documentation. You should be able to create supporting diagrams to explain complex topics with transparency and clarity.
• A self-driven professional with a passion for DevOps methodologies and agile principles. You should thrive on helping engineers solve complex challenges that others deem impossible.
