Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church Accompanist

Reports to: Director of Music

Part-Time

FLSA: Hourly Non-Exempt

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Accompanist will support our liturgical music program at Our Lady Star of the Sea. This individual will collaborate with the Music Director to enhance worship through music at Masses, special liturgical celebrations and Holy Days.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provide piano and/or organ accompaniment for weekend Masses and holy days.
  • Rehearse regularly with the choir and cantor(s).
  • Assist in preparing music selections in coordination with the Music Director.
  • Accompany special liturgies such as Christmas and Easter.
  • Maintain a high standard of musical excellence appropriate to Catholic worship.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Proficiency in piano and/or organ performance.
  • Experience accompanying choirs and/or congregational singing.
  • Familiarity with Catholic liturgy and sacred music preferred.
  • Ability to sight-read and adapt to varying musical needs.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Reliability and punctuality.

SCHEDULE

  • Weekend Masses (typically Sunday morning).
  • Weekly choir rehearsal.
  • Additional services as needed (holy days and monthly praise and worship).

Language Skills

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors, employees, and the public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
