Acting Director of Primary Care - Regional Victoria (3 Hours from Melbourne)

This is an exceptional opportunity for a dynamic and values-driven professional to step into a Director of Primary Care position based in regional Victoria, approximately three hours from Melbourne.

Ideal for a current manager seeking to progress into an executive leadership role, this position offers the chance to lead multidisciplinary teams delivering high-quality primary and community health services across multiple sites.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, you will lead and support the delivery of integrated primary and community health programs, including community nursing, allied health, and home and community services.

You will drive service excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement across clinical governance, workforce development, and consumer experience.




Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership across Primary Care, ensuring delivery of safe, high-quality clinical and community health services.
  • Lead and mentor Nurse Unit Managers, Allied Health, and Home & Community Care teams to deliver coordinated, person-centred care.
  • Oversee service planning, workforce development, financial performance, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence aligned with organisational values.
  • Drive accreditation, compliance, and risk management processes across the division.
  • Partner with local healthcare providers, community organisations, and government agencies to strengthen integrated care models.
  • Advise the CEO and Board on operational outcomes and contribute to the strategic direction of the health service.




About You

You're a confident and forward-thinking leader who thrives in a regional or rural health setting.

You have a passion for supporting teams, improving community health outcomes, and leading change that delivers lasting impact.

Essential Criteria

  • Registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse or other relevant Allied Health Professional.
  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role managing multidisciplinary teams and operational services.
  • Strong understanding of community health, primary care, or rural healthcare delivery models.
  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, quality improvement, and financial management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change, develop staff capability, and build a positive workplace culture.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualifications in health management, leadership, or related discipline.
  • Experience working within the Victorian public health system.
