Position Summary

The Per Diem Pediatric Radiologist provides high-quality diagnostic imaging interpretation and consultation for pediatric patients ranging from neonates to adolescents. The role supports clinical services on an as-needed basis, including coverage for scheduled shifts, urgent needs, weekends, and holidays depending on departmental needs. The radiologist collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely, accurate diagnoses and optimal patient care.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Interpret a full range of pediatric imaging studies, including radiographs, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, CT, and MRI (based on candidate’s competencies and departmental needs).
  • Provide timely, clear, and clinically relevant reports and communication with referring providers.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary discussions and care conferences as needed.
  • Perform fluoroscopic procedures with attention to minimizing radiation exposure and ensuring child-friendly approaches.
  • Collaborate with technologists and nursing staff to support efficient workflow and high-quality imaging.
  • Ensure adherence to institutional, departmental, and regulatory policies, including ALARA radiation safety principles.
  • Provide remote/tele-radiology coverage when applicable.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer review, and clinical protocol updates as appropriate for per diem status.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

MD or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience

Education & Training:

  • MD or DO degree.
  • Completion of Diagnostic Radiology residency.
  • Completion of NeuroRadiology fellowship

Certification

  • Board certified or board eligible in Diagnostic Radiology by the American Board of Radiology (ABR).

Licensure

  • Unrestricted medical license (or eligibility) in the state of North Carolina.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain privileges at the affiliated hospital(s).

Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated expertise in interpreting Neuroradiology imaging across multiple modalities.
  • Experience with urgent/emergent NeuroRadiology imaging preferred.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to patient and family-centered care.
  • Comfort working in both in-person and remote reading environments.
