Job Overview
We’re seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Assistance Underwriter to support our Commercial Underwriters in achieving team targets. You’ll assist in the profitable underwriting of commercial business and contribute to the overall success of the team. You’ll also play a key part in developing and maintaining strong relationships with brokers, and fostering growth in our London Commercial Branch
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the team in profitable, accurate, and consistent underwriting of new and existing business, adhering to established practices and governance.
- Collect, analyse, and input underwriting data with attention to detail, supporting sales and underwriting processes.
- Provide timely and proactive support to the sales and underwriting teams, demonstrating initiative and self-starting attitude.
- Develop strong relationships with brokers and customers, contributing to clarity and relevance in service, while building personal credibility in the market.
- Commit to continuous self-development through coaching and professional qualifications, enhancing underwriting, analysis, and insurance principles knowledge.
- Use influencing and negotiation skills to build effective internal and external relationships, understanding customer needs to improve the customer experience.
- Take ownership of delivering high-quality service, responding swiftly to stakeholder needs, and prioritizing effectively in a competitive environment.
- Promote continual improvement, contribute to team discussions, support financial targets, and develop professional qualifications aligned with industry standards.
At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least three days a week (60%) away from home which means attending our office in London, visiting clients or attending industry events. Your Skills & Experience
- Basic understanding of the commercial insurance market is advantageous.
- Awareness of technical underwriting concepts in an insurance environment is beneficial.
- Numerical reasoning skills suitable for entry-level underwriting tasks.
- Good written and verbal communication skills to effectively support team and broker interactions.
- Developing analytical skills to assist in assessing insurance risks.
- Ability to work independently with a proactive approach.
- Strong organisational and planning skills to manage workload efficiently.
This position has been defined as an Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) role under the IDD regime which means that in addition to pre-employment screening checks, the successful candidate will be subject to background screening every 4 years with an annual declaration in interim years.
