Under the general direction of the Departmental Construction and Maintenance Supervisor (DCMS), Construction Unit, the Associate Electrical Engineer (AEE) serves as a liaison and technical advisor to the Facilities Operations Branch. The incumbent is responsible for completing final project plans, specifications, and estimates; reviewing work for completeness and accuracy; and preparing plans using standard drafting and computer-aided design techniques for modular systems furniture, lighting systems, fiber optic and processing systems, and other electrical and electronic systems. The AEE also conducts field investigations, collects engineering data, and provides electrical load calculation information in support of facility construction and maintenance projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical liaison and advisor to the Facilities Operations Branch.
  • Prepare and finalize project plans, specifications, and engineering estimates.
  • Review engineering and design work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Develop plans and drawings using AutoCAD, Revit, and other drafting/design software.
  • Design and support lighting systems, modular furniture layouts, fiber optic systems, and related electrical infrastructure.
  • Conduct field investigations and site assessments to gather engineering data.
  • Perform electrical load calculations and provide technical recommendations.
  • Interpret and apply California Building Code requirements and related regulations.
  • Coordinate projects through all phases to ensure timely and quality completion.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to customer satisfaction and quality product delivery.


Desirable Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Knowledge of California Building Code and related construction regulations.
  • Understanding of principles and practices of architecture, office planning and design, and development of facilities planning programs.

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Ability to design, render, and prepare elevations, floor plans, and related drawings.
  • Ability to inspect, review, and verify the work of others.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound recommendations and take effective action.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage projects to completion, including required administrative processes.
