Under the direction of the Information Technology Manager I, the Information Technology Specialist II (ITS II) serves as a technical lead across on-premises and AWS cloud platforms. This position performs advanced duties in Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Information Security Engineering, Security Risk Management, and Client Services. The incumbent will support the Department's critical 24x7 infrastructure and provide expertise in application support, software administration, system administration, security risk management, and system integration.
The ITS II is expected to apply innovative problem-solving skills across a broad range of technologies, independently manage complex technical assignments, and provide support during both business and non-business hours as operational needs require.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, administration, and support of on-premises and AWS cloud-based infrastructure and applications.
- Provide technical leadership for software engineering, systems engineering, and information security initiatives.
- Administer and support enterprise applications, operating systems, middleware, and cloud services.
- Design, develop, test, evaluate, and maintain highly complex information technology solutions.
- Perform system integration activities to ensure seamless operation across multiple platforms and technologies.
- Monitor system performance, availability, and security to support mission-critical services.
- Implement and maintain security controls, ensuring compliance with departmental policies and industry best practices.
- Conduct security risk assessments and identify vulnerabilities within existing and developing systems.
- Collaborate with data owners and Information Security Officers to recommend and implement security enhancements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues affecting infrastructure, applications, and cloud services.
- Provide exceptional customer service and technical support to internal stakeholders.
- Participate in after-hours support and on-call activities as required to maintain critical services.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience designing, implementing, and supporting complex enterprise IT solutions in on-premises and AWS cloud environments.
- Strong knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems, Java, scripting languages, system administration, and information security principles.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services, including EC2, EKS, Lambda, and CloudWatch.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk and/or Datadog.
- Knowledge of security risk management, vulnerability assessment, and implementation of security controls and compliance requirements.
- Ability to identify security risks, recommend mitigation strategies, and support the protection of critical information assets.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service and technical support.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities, work effectively under pressure, and support critical systems during business and non-business hours.
