Key Responsibilities

Educational Director

This is a professional level position reporting to the Assistant Superintendent of Achievement. This position provides statewide leadership, coordination, and support for Utah’s Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program and World Languages instruction.

This position is responsible for overseeing the implementation and support of DLI programs across the state, including supervision of instructional coaches, coordination of curriculum processes, development and facilitation of professional learning, and support of international partnerships and teacher recruitment. This job is unique to the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) in that it supports a statewide program across multiple LEAs while ensuring alignment with statute, Board rule, and local governance structures.

  • Provide overall leadership and coordination of the Utah Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program
  • Provide support to LEAs regarding World Languages, Utah’s Seal of Biliteracy, foreign exchange students
  • Coordinate with USDH regarding the Bridge program
  • Supervise and support DLI instructional coaches assigned by language
  • Ensure program alignment with Utah Code, Board Rule R277-488, and USBE guidance, etc.
  • Facilitate the development, review, and approval of DLI curriculum by language in alignment with the Utah Core Standards, USBE policies, the USBE Instructional Materials Review (RIMS) process, and LEA policies
  • Coordinate and support international partnerships and country agreements related to DLI programs
  • Support recruitment efforts for DLI teachers, including coordination of J-1 visa processes and addressing teacher vacancies
  • Design, organize, and/or facilitate statewide professional learning for DLI teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators
  • Collaborate with LEAs to support effective implementation of DLI programs while maintaining local decision-making authority
  • Analyze statewide DLI data to inform program support, resource allocation, and continuous improvement
  • Provide guidance and technical assistance to LEAs regarding DLI program implementation
  • Coordinate communication between USBE and LEAs regarding DLI programming and supports

Knowledge

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of dual language immersion program design and implementation
  • Knowledge of Utah education systems, including LEA governance structures
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional best practices, and professional learning systems
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to public education

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Ability to coordinate statewide initiatives across multiple stakeholders
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to analyze data and apply findings to program improvement

Other Necessary Requirements

  • MA/MS degree required
  • Valid Utah educator license required; Utah administrative license preferred
  • 5+ years of verifiable experience in dual language immersion or multilingual education
  • 3+ years of verifiable experience administering a school or LEA program and supervising/evaluating educators
  • 3+ years of verifiable experience developing and providing professional learning to adults
  • USBE Coaching endorsement, preferred
  • Fluency in DLI program language preferred (Spanish, Chinese, French, Portuguese, German, Russian)
  • Ability to travel statewide, as needed
  • Valid driver’s license
