In this role, you will assist with workload in coordinating the planning, budgeting, and delivery of a diverse range of festivals and events in the Mackay Region. You will work closely with key stakeholders to ensure that our events are topical, innovative, and relevant to the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all staff within the Festivals and Events function.
- Develop and manage the budget allocated to the Festivals and Events function.
- Provide input into strategic and operational processes, including workforce planning and business cases.
- Ensure the timely, effective, and efficient completion of allocated projects in accordance with Service Level Agreements (SLA) and standards of work.
- Coordinate the planning and delivery of events such as the Mackay Festival of Arts, Global Grooves, and New Year’s Eve Celebration.
- Develop strategies to ensure events are well-attended and relevant to the community.
- Liaise with key stakeholders including City Centre businesses, tourism operators, Council staff, potential investors, residents, and visitors.
- Maintain databases, attend to correspondence, and handle general office administration.
Essential:
- Qualification in Event Management (or related field) with a degree preferred, or substantial experience.
- QLD “C” Class Drivers Licence or interstate equivalent.
- Working with Children Blue Card.
- Substantial experience in the delivery of large-scale festivals and events.
- Extensive experience in developing and delivering marketing strategies.
- Practical staff supervision experience.
- Relevant Project Management experience.
- Experience in developing strategy and producing written reports.
- Contract Management experience.
- Highly developed event management skills.
- Commitment to effective event, marketing, and promotion strategies.
- Ability to respond to changing client demands in a competitive environment.
- Competency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Well-established project management skills.
- High level written communication skills including report and funding application experience.
- Strong stakeholder and contract management skills.
- High level analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of the Festivals and Events industry and creative industries.
- Base annual salary of $ 107,933.28
- Any 5 out of 7 rosters may apply
- Up to 18% superannuation (conditions apply)

The Mackay Regional Council area is one of the fastest growing regions in Queensland. Covering the areas of the former Sarina and Mirani shires and Mackay city, it extends 7261 square kilometres.
