Job Title: HDR APPLICATIONS ENGINEER

Summary/Objective: The Applications Engineer takes standard Samtec products and modifies them to fit customer application. They work with the Customer, Product and Process Engineers to define designs and solutions that will meet customer requirements. Daily interaction with Production, Procurement, Engineering, Quoting, Marketing and Management for standard Samtec products and modifies them to fit customer application.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Correspond with customer to propose and design the correct solution for their application
  • Review requests from customers.
  • Assign custom part numbers.
  • Enter engineering change requests (ECRs).
  • Field other technical questions that may roll over.
  • Review prints to ensure the design meets the customer requirements, and is good for use in production.
  • Generate product cost sheets to be used for quoting purposes.
  • Must know the characteristics of a wide breadth of products and components.
  • Define product concepts with customers.
  • Work hand-in-hand with the Product Manager on needs and trends related to customer designs.
  • Provide monthly status updates on customer interactions.
  • Some travel to customers and trade shows, etc. may be required.

Required Experience

  • 3-5 Years’ Experience in Inside Sales, Technical Sales is required with experience in modifying or customizing products desired.
  • Strong attention to detail required for such activities as reviewing customer requirements, statements of work and detailed drawings/prints.
  • Project management of the Samtec product solution from concept/quote through product release to production.
  • Communication skills and a high level of service are essential. Beyond direct customer interaction, this role interacts with all departments within Samtec, Inc. (Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Quality, Operations, etc.).
  • Experience working in the connector industry is desired.
  • Technical background is required.
  • Must be able to sit/stand for at least 90 consecutive minutes, and not suffer from any sensory deprivation and/or paralysis of the limbs.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, other technical discipline, or equivalent work experience.
